Business Operations

Business Operations manages the IT Department budget, is in charge of IT Procurement, and IT Department Policy and Procedures.

Enterprise Applications Services (EAS)

Enterprise Applications Services (EAS) provides systems support, data administration and innovative solutions to meet the University's administrative business needs. EAS is responsible for insuring the security and integrity of the University's administrative system and database.

The applications EAS supports include Banner, DARS, MyMichiganTech, Huskylink, Space Inventory, Self Service, and the University Dashboard. They are also responsible for administration, maintenance, and support of the MyMichiganTech portal.

Media Technology Services

Media Technology Services (MTS) provides a wide range of technology support and media integration services for the entire university. The staff of MTS assists members of the Michigan Tech community who are using technology in the areas of teaching and learning, research projects, web conferencing, and special event support.

Services offered include: Audio and Video System Design, Digital Signage, Video and Web Conferencing, Classroom Technology, and Project Management for technology installations.


Operations is the largest group in Information Technology, which tasks include:

  • Storage system design, implementation and support
  • Data-centers, virtual server clusters, license servers, terminal servers, software packaging and distribution
  • Faculty, staff and computer lab workstation computer provisioning/maintenance
  • Lecture capture and remote meeting technology
  • Classroom technology
  • Residence hall wired/wireless network support
  • Campus printing support and computer lab maintenance

We support all three of the campus' major operating systems (Windows, Linux and MacOS) in a broad array of systems.

Operations accomplishes these tasks with only 20 staff and over 50 student employees. Our staff and students come from all backgrounds, majors and specialties.


Security focuses on organization-wide security, including network, application, data, access, identity, and physical security for IT. Security works across IT units to ensure security compliance and best practices. Externally, Security works with Public Safety and other agencies with security concerns related to Michigan Tech IT.


Services is responsible for Enterprise system design and support. They provide system support for campus wide software like email, Canvas, and Banner. Services is also responsible for database administration.


Telecommunications (Telcom) is responsible for providing voice, data, and video services to all university constituents, as well as maintaining a robust telecommunications infrastructure. Services include data network connections (both wired and wireless), telephone services, television, and many others.
