Technical Requirements

HuskyCast

Powered by Echo360, Mediasite, RealMedia, iTunes U and Canvas, HuskyCast delivers classroom lecture audio, video and screen/document recordings. HuskyCast is used for online courses as well as on-campus supplemental course content. Echo360 is the current program delivery method for HuskyCast. If your course uses HuskyCast it is essential that your computer meet minimum technical requirements.

Canvas

Provides instructors and students with a web-based home for each of their courses. Course content and materials, including syllabi, lecture notes or slides, files and links to external sources, and audio-video content can be made available to students in a secure environment.

Technical Requirements

  • Latest two versions of Chrome, Firefox, Internet Explorer or Safari.
  • Windows 7 and newer OR Mac OS X 10.5.7 and newer
  • Adobe Flash Player 9.0.0
  • JavaScript enabled
  • Minimum bandwidth of 1.5 Mbps (Video streaming only)
  • Microsoft Silverlight 3.0 and later
  • Windows Media Player 9.0 and later (PC only)
  • RealPlayer (PC and Mac)
  • iTunes
  • Apple iOS 5.0 and newer
  • Android versions through 4.0.4 (Ice Cream Sandwich)

Detailed Technical Requirements for specific program delivery methods:

Canvas

Canvas is Michigan Tech's Learning Management System (or LMS). It provides the main way students submit assignments, take quizzes, download information, and discuss topics. It's essential that your computer meets Canvas's minimum technical requirements.

Laptop or desktop: Provides instructors and students with a web-based home for each of their courses.

  • Latest two versions of Chrome, Firefox, Internet Explorer or Safari
  • Adobe Flash Player 9.0.0 and later
  • JavaScript enabled
  • Java plugin required for Screen Sharing feature in conferences

Mobile: Provides instructors and students with a home for each of their courses on a mobile devices.

  • "Canvas for iOS" is available in the App Store. Requires iOS 5.0 and later
  • "Canvas for Android" is available in the Android Market. Requires Android 2.2 and later

Echo360

Full rich media playback: Includes high quality display window (i.e., document camera, computer screen) and high quality video window (i.e., in-room camera for instructor or demonstration).

  • Latest two versions of Chrome, Firefox, Internet Explorer or Safari
  • Windows 7 and newer, Mac OS X 10.5 and newer or Linux Red Hat 6
  • Adobe Flash Player 9.0.0 and later.
  • Minimum bandwidth of 1.5 Mbps

Mobile Playback: Includes lower quality display window and may not include video window

  • Apple iOS 5.0 and later (iPhone, iPad and iPod Touch)
  • Android versions through 4.0.4 (Ice Cream Sandwich)

iTunes U

Michigan Tech on iTunes U is a service that enables faculty to deliver pre-recorded audio/video course content using Apple's iTunes software. iTunes U is also used to watch previsouly recorded commencement ceremonies.

Laptop or desktop:

Mobile Playback:

  • "iTunes U" is available in the App store. Requires iOS 5.0 and later

Mediasite

Full rich media playback: Includes high quality display window (i.e., document camera, computer screen) and high quality video window (i.e., in-room camera for instructor or demonstration).

  • Windows 2003 and newer or Mac OS X 10.5.7 and later
  • Windows Media Player 9.0 and later (PC only)
  • Microsoft Silverlight 3.0 and later
