Residence Hall Printing

Printers are available for resident use in the following areas:

  • Wads Lobby (by the ATM)
  • McNair G001
  • Hillside G03A (by the pool table)
  • DHH 130 (by the drinking fountain)

All residents have been given an allowance of $25 per semester. This allowance can only be used for the printers listed above (husky-res printers).

The process for connecting to the residence hall printers is below; choose your applicable operating system (Mac/Linux or Windows).

Mac/Linux Instructions

How to add the husky-res printer

  1. Download and install the PaperCut client. THE PAPERCUT CLIENT MUST BE RUNNING BEFORE YOU CAN PRINT.
  2. Add the printer to your computer.
    • Open System Preferences.
    • Click on “Print & Scan."
    • Click on the “+” at the lower left corner and click “Add new printer.”
    • Navigate to the "IP" tab at the top.
    • Information is as follows:
      • Address: printing.it.mtu.edu:631
      • Protocol: Internet Printing Protocol – IPP
      • Queue: /printers/husky-res
      • Name: Name of the printer
      • Location: Location of the printer
      • Use: Driver for the printer (Generic Postscript Driver)
    • Once the information is filled in, hit OK.

    • Select the "Duplex Printing Unit" option to utilize the duplex feature. When finished, hit “OK.”
    • Once the printer is added, you will be directed back to the printer queue screen. To print, the PaperCut Client must be running. When PaperCut is running, this window should be shown:


      If prompted by PaperCut to log in after trying to print, enter your Michigan Tech ISO username and password to send the job to the printer.

How to add the husky-res printer

FIRST! Make sure you've downloaded the Residence Hall Printer Drivers for Windows.

  1. Install the PaperCut client. THE PAPERCUT CLIENT MUST BE RUNNING BEFORE YOU CAN PRINT.
  2. Add the printer to your computer.
    1. From the Windows Start menu, select "Devices and Printers."
    2. Select "Add a printer."

    3. Select "Add a network, wireless, or Bluetooth printer."

    5. Select "The printer that I want isn't listed."
    6. Select "Select a shared printer by name" and enter the printer path: http://printing.it.mtu.edu:631/printers/husky-res

      and click "Next."
    7. When prompted for the driver, select "Have Disk."

    8. Browse to the file location and choose HP x64 (Windows 8 or 7) or HP x86(Windows XP) depending on your operating system.

    9. Select HP Universal Printing PS (v5.6.5) and click "OK."
