Chief Information Officer
Walter serves as Michigan Tech's Chief Information Officer (CIO). The CIO has responsibility for the information technology, networking, and computing efforts on campus, as well as information security, compliance, and electronic business processes. Walter was appointed to the CIO position in July 2006.
Walter joined the Michigan Tech faculty as Assistant Professor of Metallurgical Engineering in 1989. He was promoted to Associate Professor in 1993 and Professor of Materials Science and Engineering in 1997. He was the recipient of Michigan Tech's Research Award in 2001, and has held professional positions at GE Aircraft Engines, NASA-Lewis Research Center, Carpenter Technology Corporation, Centre d'Études Nucléaires de Grenoble (France), and NTNU - the Norwegian University of Science and Technology (Norway).
Prior to taking on the CIO role, Walter was heavily involved in research on materials, particularly regarding the structural performance of advanced materials for high temperature applications, as well as nanostructured materials.
Walter currently is the Secretary of the Board of Directors of Merit Network, Inc., and is a past member of the Board of Directors of both ABET, Inc., and The Minerals, Metals and Materials Society.
Walter earned a PhD and MS in Materials Engineering from the Georgia Institute of Technology, and a BS in Metallurgical Engineering from the University of Cincinnati.

Chief Technology Officer
Josh has a BS in Computer Information Systems from Northern Michigan University and an MBA from Michigan Tech. He holds certifications with the Global Information Assurance Certification organization (GPPA, GWAS) and the ITIL v3 Foundation.

Deputy Chief Technology Officer
Jarrod has over 18 years of IT experience at Michigan Tech. He has a BS in Computer Science and an MBA from Michigan Tech and a Masters Certificate in Project Management from the University of Wisconsin Executive Education Center.

Director of Media Technology Services
David is a native of Ishpeming, MI, and served for four years in the U.S. Army and three years in the National Guard. He graduated from Northern Michigan University with a degree in Electronics Technology and has worked at Michigan Tech for over 17 years. Project experience includes: classroom and lab technology design, videoconferencing system design, managing RFP processes and vendors, research project support, digital signage, broadcast facility design, and essentially anything A/V.

Director of Enterprise Application Services
Emmett has 17 years of experience in IT, 13 of which have been with Enterprise Application Services at Michigan Tech. He has a BS in Management Information Systems from Northwood University and an MBA from Michigan Tech.

Director of Research Computing
Gowtham, with a PhD in Engineering Physics from Michigan Tech, has 5+ years of of IT experience. He is an Adjunct Assistant Professor in Physics and Electrical and Computer Engineering, and teaches Scientific Computing courses (UN5390/UN5395) during the school year.
He is a member of the HPC Advisory Council, IEEE Computer Society, ACM Special Interest Group on High Performance Computing, science advisor to John Wiley & Sons, Inc., and Michigan Tech's NSF XSEDE Campus Champion.

Chief Information Security Officer
Dave has over 15 years of experience at Michigan Tech, spending the last 12 years in security-focused roles. He holds certification with the Global Information Assurance Certification organization (GIAC) for incident handling (GCIH), wireless network auditing (GAWN), exploit research and advanced penetration testing (GXPN), intrusion analysis (GCIH), and forensic analysis (GCFA). Dave also serves on the SANS education advisory board.

Jena holds a BS in Accounting from Michigan Tech and is actively pursuing her CMA certification. She has been a member of the IT department since November 2010.

Pat has been involved in Information Technology at Michigan Tech since starting as a student work study in 1996 and was first hired as a System Administrator in the Systems Administrative Services (SAS) department in 2000. Pat enjoys mentoring the next generation of Information Technology employees through his work with Michigan Tech Information Technology's large group of student employees.

Patti is the Assistant to the Chief Technology Officer and provides support for the IT Leadership Team. She received an Associate's degree from Northern Michigan University and completed the University's Office Professional Development Program. She has been at the University for 20 years and has served on various University committees, including Staff Council.

Kurt graduated with honors from Michigan Tech with a BS in Electrical Engineering and continued in graduate school studying high performance, network based computing. He has over 25 years of experience in information technology-related fields, having worked for small engineering firms, IBM, Michigan Tech and over 10 years as an independent IT consultant.

Chief Information Compliance Officer
Ashley is the chief information compliance officer (CICO) for Michigan Tech. As CICO, she is responsible for the strategic management of the University's information security and compliance program.
Ashley has over 10 years of IT audit experience throughout various industries and service sectors. She received her BS in Business Administration with a concentration in MIS from Michigan Tech and is a certified information systems auditor (CISA). Ashley also serves on the SANS Education and Securing the Human advisory boards.

Steve holds a Master's Degree in Business Administration (specializing in Management) and a Bachelor of Science Degree in Electrical Engineering. Prior to Michigan Tech, he was the Director of Technical Services (Director of Audio Visual, Online Services, and the Help Desk) at Lake Superior State University.
